This includes the MDGs, the ILO 2008 Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, AU Plan of Action on Employment and Poverty Alleviation, the ILO Decent Work Agenda for Africa and PRSP.

The ILO Regional Office for Africa is located in Addis Ababa, home to the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commision for Africa (ECA). The Regional Office is responisble for planning and coordinating the work of ILO's network of 13 offices throughout Africa. At the regional level it works closely with the AU and ECA, and through them with the Regional Economic Communities, to promote decent work in Africa.

First African Decent Work Symposium on “Recovering from the crisis: the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact in Africa.”
At the invitation of H.E. Mr. Blaise Compaore, President of Burkina Faso, the First African Decent Work Symposium - organized in collaboration with the International Labour Office (ILO) and the African Union Commission (AUC) on the theme : "Recovering from the crisis: the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact in Africa" - will be held from 1-2 December 2009 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day 2009 focuses on the human rights perspective and
universal access. The campaign was designed to bridge the gap between
the ideals of Human Rights with the every day reality of people living
with AIDS and the need to attain HIV prevention, treatment, care and
support for all.
With these themes in mind, the ILO has created a campaign specifically
to address the issues pertaining to the development of a labour
standard on HIV / AIDS for greater protection of human rights at work:
I am working.
Workers and employers, in collaboration with the AIDS Program of the
International Labour Organization and the ILO Regional Office for
Africa, will also contribute to the global campaign as of November 30,
2009 by organising a series of activities in advance to the 1st
African Decent Work Symposium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Second Social Partners Forum on "Mobilizing Social Dialogue for the Implementation of the Global Jobs Pact in Africa"
The ILO Regional Office for Africa will be organizing the Second Social Partners Forum in Africa in order to discuss how the social partners, social dialogue and tripartism can be better mobilized to counter the effects of the current global financial, economic and social crisis on African economies and societies. The meeting will be attended by workers and employers representatives from all African ILO member states, and by twenty selected civil society organizations who will join the forum as observers. The Forum is expected to adopt a Declaration that will be submitted to the First Decent Work Symposium in Africa (Ougadougou, 1-2 December 2009).
The First Social Partners Forum took place in Ouagadougou on 3-4 September 2004 under the title "Decent Work - a driving force for Africa's development". It preceded the African Union Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on Employment and Poverty Reduction which was organized in Ouagadougou in September 2004.

4th Meeting of EAC Ministers of Labour and Employment
This 4th Meeting of the Ministers of Labour and Employment (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi) of the East African Community (EAC) was held on 6 November 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Ministerial Meeting - convened by the EAC Secretariat in collaboration with the ILO - adopted and launched the Regional Decent Work Programme. The EAC Decent Work Programme focuses on Youth Employment Creation, Extension of Social Protection and Enhancement of Capacity for Social Dialogue.

5th International Microinsurance Conference 2009
The 5th edition of the International Conference on Micro-insurance is being held from 3 - 5 November in Dakar, Senegal. The Conference will bring together over 400 stakeholders from 60 countries. ILO Regional Director for Africa, Mr. Charles Dan, will be giving the keynote speech during the opening session.
This fifth Conference is of particular importance in responding efficiently to the current financial and economic crisis.

First Pan-African Forum on Women’s Entrepreneurship Development in Response to the Financial and Economic Crisis
In response to the financial and economic crisis, the First Pan-African Forum on Women’s Entrepreneurship Development (WED), which will jointly be organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the African Development Bank (AfBD) under the patronage of the First Lady of Egypt, Her Excellency, Madam Suzanne Mubarak, will be held from 27-29 October 2009 in Cairo, Egypt.

The Social Economy – Africa’s response to the Global Crisis
This conference will bring together social economy promoters and stakeholders from Africa, government representatives from 25 African countries, employers’ and workers’ organisations, social economy organisations from other parts of the world, and ILO HQ units and field specialists to adopt an action programme aiming at mobilising the social economy in Africa in response to the crisis, at local, national and regional levels.
