Systematic and systemic child and forced labour were not used by the Uzbekistan government during the 2019 cotton production cycle, according to a new ILO report.

The International Labour Office under its project “Accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in supply chains in Africa” (ACCEL Africa), conducts a training on data analysis relating to child labour and forced labour for 28 participants from national statistics offices, labour ministries and regional workers and employers' organizations of the Economic Community of the West Africa States (ECOWAS) and the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) in Africa.

A major conference takes place this week in the Netherlands that aims to set out the next steps in ending child labour in global supply chains. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder took part in a panel discussion at the conference, which has been organized by the Dutch government in collaboration with the ILO, the Global March Against Child Labour and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

On the celebration of the National Day of Peace in Côte d'Ivoire, and a few days before the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the International Labour Organisation provide over 1500 T-shirts to children participating in the International Marathon of Abidjan District, an event bringing together more than 20,000 people with about 50 athletes nominated by National Federations of Algeria, Belgium, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, France, Ghana , Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia.

New estimates of child labour, forced labour and human trafficking in global supply chains are revealed in a report compiled by the ILO, OECD, IOM and UNICEF – members of the Alliance 8.7 partnership on child labour, forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking.
