Modernizing International Networking in Occupational Safety and Health

This project seeks to modernize ILO international networking in the occupational safety and health (OSH) field through strengthening institutional capacities to acquire and use knowledge and information for prevention globally.

Connecting institutions and people with the knowledge they need

The project supports ILO work in OSH by providing supplementary resources to undertake a global survey of OSH agencies, institutions and organisations around the world. The aim of the survey is to constitute, for the first time, a comprehensive global knowledge base on the scope of work, technical capacities, structure, functioning modalities and networking practices. By taking stock, analyzing and sharing experience on OSH knowledge and information development efforts, the ILO wishes to impulse a worldwide knowledge and information sharing dynamic and contribute connecting institutions and people with the knowledge they need.

The result of the survey will inform future policy development and will be used to devise peer-to-peer support strategies, programmes and projects that will build upon and contribute strengthening collaboration among existing OSH networks. The project notably provides for documenting the constitution and functioning of six of them, and accompanying the development of three project proposals to enhance capacities in the area of OSH knowledge and information (e.g. research, education, information and advisory services, awareness-raising, other).

This initiative is a key element of the ILO’s OSH flagship programme: Occupational Safety and Health - Global Action for Prevention (OSH-GAP), and directly contributes towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on decent work and economic growth.

The project will also contribute to the SDG on good health and
well-being
