Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration

Mainstreaming health of migrants in the implementation and review of the GCM: Towards international cooperation for a shared vision

The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) to be accepted by member states in December 2018 stresses the need to develop country-specific profiles and evidence-based policies on migrants’ health. This side event aims to facilitate dialogue on action and innovative collaboration at global, regional, national, and local levels for health related commitments of the GCM.

The expected outcomes include:
- Showcase and commit at highest level to cooperation and shared responsibility for implementation of health-related aspects of GCM among the UN system partners;
- Engage member States and non-state stakeholders in the protection and promotion of health of migrant; and
- Encourage coherence between the implementation of the GCM health-related objectives and respective policy options or best practices.
