    Rapid Assessment: The impact of COVID-19 on labour migration governance, recruitment practices and migrant workers in Pakistan

    April 2021

    Covering the period from March to November 2020, the assessment examines the pandemic’s impact on labour migration from Pakistan, primarily to Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Its findings are drawn from an in-depth survey, key informant interviews and discussions with migrant workers, regulatory bodies, relevant stakeholders and facilitators of migration processes.

    Female labour migration from Pakistan: A situation analysis

    This study aims to further examine the patterns and characteristics of female migration for employment from Pakistan and explores specifically why the number of Pakistani female migrant workers remains so low. The findings and recommendations of this study will guide the interventions of the ILO, the Government of Pakistan and social partners towards fair recruitment of migrant workers, including women migrant workers, in line with the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) (2016-20) for Pakistan, and the ILO’s Fair Recruitment Initiative.

    La Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) y el Consejo Nacional para Prevenir la Discriminación (Conapred) coorganizaron el Taller de formación para periodistas “Migración laboral, trabajo forzoso y contratación equitativa”, con el fin de reducir los efectos de la desinformación, contribuir a erradicar la xenofobia y potenciar una cultura informativa con enfoque antidiscriminatorio. Este taller se desarrollo en el marco del proyecto: Acción global para mejorar el marco de la contratación de los trabajadores migrantes (REFRAME) de la OIT, en la Ciudad de México.

    Statistics for SDG indicator 10.7.1: Draft Guidelines for their Collection 

    This draft set of Guidelines for the collection of statistics for SDG indicator 10.7.1 on reducing recruitment costs, identifies a number of conceptual issues and definitions with respect to measuring recruitment costs borne by an employee as a proportion of monthly income earned in the country of destination. These guidelines have been produced by the ILO and the WB, as co-custodians of SDG Indicator 10.7.1, with the support of the EU funded ILO-REFRAME project and the Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD). They have been validated through a consultative process with National Statistical Offices and, as a result of this process the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goals (IAEG-SDG) moved SDG indicator 10.7.1 from Tier 3 to Tier 2, in October 2019.
