Bangladesh-Indonesia-Nepal-Sri Lanka-Philippines: Green jobs promotion
The ILO project Green Jobs in Asia assisted five Asian countries in initiating the shift towards low-carbon, environmentally friendly and climate resilient economies.
The Green Jobs in Asia, under the Australian Government – ILO Partnership Agreement, deepened the above five countries’ understanding and commitments for the promotion of gender sensitive green jobs opportunities. The project provided capacity building on green jobs to constituents, supported the mainstreaming of green jobs issues in labour and social policies, and realized demonstrative sectoral green jobs interventions in four of the countries: Bangladesh (renewable energy), Indonesia (sustainable tourism), Philippines (environmentally sustainable construction), Sri Lanka (solid waste management).
On 29-31 August 2012 in Surabaya, Indonesia, the Green Jobs in Asia Regional Conference convened tripartite representatives from both project implementation countries and others with green jobs experiences. The conference offered an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge gained through the implementation of the Green Jobs in Asia project. Overall, the ten country representatives called for the replication, expansion and adaption of successful projects and presented their priorities for the way forward in promoting green jobs in the region.
