UN Side Event on Climate Change Education: “Leaving No One Behind in Climate Change Education”
How can climate change education be made more inclusive and relevant to a large variety of stakeholders? Operationalising just transition in Europe: ILO and ETUC perspectives
This event will introduce ILO guidelines on just transition. The ETUC and Syndex will present the main conclusions of the report “Climate policies and industrial regions: towards a just transition?” which notably covers seven regional case studies from all around Europe. The Belgian trade union ACV which has been partner of the project, will specifically focus on the region of Antwerp. Finally, the case of Spain will be presented to discuss how the transition of a coal mining area in Andorra (Teruel, Spain) could be managed.Date and venue: Thursday 17 November, 10.30 - 12.00, EU Pavilion

Official UNS Side Event on SDG 8 “Decent work and economic growth: A just transition towards a low-carbon and inclusive green economy”
This United Nations System side event aims at promoting a just transition to greener and low-carbon economies in the context of the follow-up to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the 2030 Agenda with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).It provides a platform for governments, enterprises, workers, communities and United Nations agencies to:
- Identify and discuss key opportunities and challenges to achieve a transition to greener and low-carbon economies and societies in the framework of the climate regime and the SDGs;
- Share good practices from the experience of countries, enterprises, workers and communities in managing the transition to greener and low-carbon economies;
- Consider ways of enhancing and coordinating the support provided to countries by the United Nations and other entities, through policies and programmes at the global, regional and national levels and scaling up good practices.

Climate change: social protection to the rescue
With the support of AFD, the ILO has developed a series of case studies from the concrete experiences of countries to better understand the link between climate change and social protection. The objective is twofold: to protect individuals against the negative effects of climate change and protect the environment from the increasing pressures of human activity. This event will present these advances and two case studies, and provide a platform to discuss policies available to bring about a "just transition" as part of international efforts to combat climate change.Date and venue: Friday 18 November 2016, 13:00-14:30, French Pavilion (blue zone)
