While the world of Employment Injury Insurance is setting answers to the current health crisis, the Malaysian Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) confirms Covid-19 to be an occupational disease eligible for workers’ compensation under the 5th Schedule of Employment Social Security Act 1969. As the Malay Mail reported, the clarification was made after many labour groups plead the SOCSO to push employers to provide safe working environments for their staff and to acknowledge Covid-19 as an occupational disease for workers at risk due to the nature of their work or the accommodation provided by their employer.
