Harnessing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Resilience in the Context of Crises and Vulnerability
On June 25, 2020, the ILO participated in the “Harnessing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Resilience in the Context of Crises and Vulnerability” webinar as part of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (ICESCO) “Societies We Want” initiative.
This live webinar event featured remarks by high-level guests including Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, the Director General of ICESCO, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso and Mrs. Amira Elfadil Mohammed Elfadil, African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs. Experts and practitioners presented their perspectives on mental health and psychosocial support toward building resilient societies, gender-based violence and mental health and the way forward.
From the ILO, Manal Azzi, Senior OSH specialist, presented OSH perspectives on mental health and psychosocial risks in the context of COVID-19. Ms. Azzi discussed the unique psychosocial risks in the world of work posed by the COVID-19 crisis and outlined occupational safety and health (OSH) measures, such as risk assessment, to be taken in ten key areas of action such as work-life balance and the working environment.
