    • E.U. Parliament urges member states to ratify ILO Conventions
      27 November 2009 - In a strong resolution adopted by a large majority on Thursday Nov.26, the European parliament showed its firm commitment in favour of a strong role of the EU in promoting a fair globalization with decent work for all, inside and outside the EU. The ILO welcomes the strong support by the European Parliament for renewed efforts on ratification and implementation of ILO Conventions.
    • U.S. Garment Buyers Team Up to Support Better Work
      19 November 2009 - The US Council for International Business (USCIB) has announced support for Better Work by five of the biggest U.S. apparel companies--Gap Inc., Levi Strauss & Co., Nike, Walmart and the Walt Disney Company—which will contribute over USD $1 million to Better Work through the USCIB’s foundation.
    • Brazil’s Foreign Minister calls for a job-intensive economic recovery
      17 November 2009 - Brazil’s Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said a new global governance was needed to protect the most vulnerable members of society from the adverse effects of the global economic crisis and called on the International Labour Organization (ILO) to continue to play a leading role in promoting a job-based recovery and a fairer globalization.

      19 October 2009 - The International Labour Office (ILO) today issued a country study on decent work in Austria, the first in a series that will systematically examine decent work in ILO member States.

      07 October 2009 - Better Work, the unique partnership programme of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), organized the first-ever international buyers forum in Haiti recently as part of a new project that is expected to create jobs and promote sustainable development and responsible labour practices in the country’s apparel industry.
    • ILO Launches Fourth Call for Proposals to Promote Cooperatives in Africa
      14 September 2009 - The International Labour Organization announced the launch, on 14 September 2009, of a fourth call for proposals to promote social economy organizations based on cooperative values and principles through the Cooperative Facility for Africa (CoopAFRICA) programme.
    • ILO says significant steps undertaken for the development of a new international human rights instrument on HIV/AIDS
      12 August 2009 - The first draft text of an international labour standard in the form of a Recommendation on HIV/AIDS and the world of work has been released by the ILO. Based on the discussions held at the International Labour Conference in Geneva this June, the draft text of the human rights instrument has been sent to member States for tripartite consultations.
    • ILO and Germany sign an agreement on the elimination of underage recruitment in Myanmar
      23 July 2009 - The agreement signed by Germany and the International Labour Organization is part of a project in line with the ILO’s Forced Labour Convention No. 29.
    • ILO and World Bank to Work More Closely on Global Disaster Risk Reduction and Livelihoods
      18 June 2009 - The ILO and the World Bank signed a joint statement to reinforce their collaboration to address the consequences of natural hazards and rebuild livelihoods in the aftermath of disasters. The statement was signed in Geneva along the margins of the Second Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.
